McMinnville Meal Site Needs Volunteers


Volunteers are needed at the McMinnville Meal Site serving meals to seniors. They are looking for people to deliver hot, nutritious meals. They also need help with kitchen duty and some clerical tasks. If you'd like to help get meals to seniors, you're encouraged to contact the McMinnville Meals on Wheels. Canby Ferry Closure


The Canby Ferry will close for up to two weeks beginning September 25th. The ferry crosses the Willamette River between Canby and Wilsonville, and runs seven days a week. But it won't operate for about two weeks so they can do maintenance on the ferry. Incidentally, the Wheatland Ferry is operating on schedule. 


OBRA Harvest Cyclocross


If you like off-road bicycle racing, the 2023 Harvest Cyclocross Series visits our area Saturday, October First. There's a race at Heiser Farms near Dayton. It's one of seven cyclocross races which began in early September in Vancouver. The Harvest Cyclocross is promoted by the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association. October Thrills and Movie Chills


If you like scary movies, check this out. The McMinnville Short Film Festival is presenting October Chills and Movie Thrills at the Gallery Theater. Saturday night October seventh you can see an encore presentation of the Horror Block from this year's film festival. Doors open at six. Proceeds benefit the McMinnville Short Film Festival. 


Town Hall Meeting in Carlton October 11th


State Representative Lucetta Elmer is conducting a Town Hall Meeting, Wednesday October 11th in Carlton. The meeting will take place from 5-6 Wednesday afternoon, October 11th at the Carlton City Government Building. Lucetta Elmer would like to hear your input on issues facing Yamhill County and the State of Oregon.


Art Harvest Studio Tour


The 29th Annual Art Harvest Studio Tour will be held in early October in Yamhill County. More than fifty artists will open their studios on October 6th-8th, and 13th-15th from 10-5. Tour entry buttons are $10, and you can get them at all 54 studios and ten other locations. The Art Harvest Studio Tour is a presentation of the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County. 


McMinnville Scottish Festival


The McMinnville Scottish Festival is coming the Yamhill County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday, October 7th and 8th. The event Celebrates Scottish and Celtic Culture. There will be a caber toss, and dance and bag pipe competition. For more information check out Celticheritage.org 


Halloween at Heiser Farm


Halloween is fast approaching, and again this year, Heiser Farms Pumpkin Patch in Dayton is gearing up for family fun. You can wander about a field of bright orange pumpkins. There are also hayrides, a petting zoo, a corn maze, pedal tractors, a hay pyramid and slide, and watching the pumpkin cannon. Solar Eclipse on October 18th


Another eclipse is coming to Yamhill County. On Saturday morning, October 14th, 85% of the sun will be covered by the moon. In Yamhill County, it starts at 8:06, and will peak around 9:20. By 10:45, the sun will be back to full view. You're advised not to look at the sun, not even with shades. You can get solar glasses to watch it, or make a small pinhole camera to watch the eclipse. 



Tales of  Pioneer Cemetery, October 17th at the Heritage Center


Just in time for Halloween, two local historians will tell the stories of early Yamhill County residents buried at the Lafayette Pioneer Cemetery.  From 6-7:30 on Tuesday, October 17th,  Kory Knutz and Karen Swank will tell the stories of those resting at the old cemetery, which is owned by the Yamhill County Historical Society.  The Presentation will be at the Yamhill County Historical Heritage Center.


Silent Vampire Film at Linfield, Octobert 24th


Linfield University will host a Halloween event featuring a silent film about vampires. It will include original organ music performed by the composer, Dean Lemire. “Nosferatu” was filmed in Germany in 1922. The granddaddy of horror films will be shown at Melrose Hall on Tuesday night, October 24th. You're encouraged to dress up. There will be a costume contest before the film is shown. “The Wolves” Opens at Linfield October 26th 


The play "The Wolves" is opening October 26th at Linfield University.  The Pulitzer Prize-nominated play tells the story of nine girls who play on an indoor soccer team.   Performances will be October 26-28th, and November 2-5th.  All the productions will be at 7:30, except for a 2 o'clock matinee on Sunday November 5th.  Tickets go on sale October 11th.  Seating is reserved in the Marshall Theater in Ford Hall.  For more information, go the Linfield University website
